Test linear regulated power supply for turntables Oppomod Oppo 93/103 and 95/105

titre-oppomod

Today I propose a rather unusual test since I'm going to test a linear regulated power supply in eOppomod  dedicated to blu-ray players from Oppo manufacturer. In the world of hi-fi and home cinema sometimes hear everything and anything on possible improvements on particular hardware. This test will be the opportunity to see what few provide optimized power of the already powerful material like platinumOppo BDP-103EU since this is the model that will be my guinea pig for this test.

Protocol test:

  • Plasma TV Panasonic TC-P50GT50 calibrée ISF
  • Amplificateur Onkyo TX-NR509
  • Blu-ray Oppo BDP-103EU with space sector Musical Muse 1 cable
  • Stereo amplifier Sansui AU117 cable modulation Space Muse Musical 3
  • Stereo amplifier Cambridge Sonata AR30 cable modulation Space Muse Musical 3
  • JBL Northridge E60 Pro with speaker cable space HP2 Musical Muse

Installing the Power Supply LINEAR POWER MODULE Oppomod

This time nothing complicated to that used to tinker a bit . Just at first unscrew and remove the cover of the blu-ray player. Then disconnect the 3 cables coming out of the power source and remove by removing a few screws that hold the card in place. Before the new supply in place must be the cable that connects the motherboard to the Oppo BDP-103EU to food over the blu-ray player. Besides about not need to completely remove the reader, simply loosen the four screws it so that the cable can be recovered. then there is only read up to the new power supply and connect the cables toues. No welds , no possibility of a mistake in the sense of connection. In short it is relatively easy to do. So good point for this change available to the greatest number.

Input on the audio

For this test I'll just make a comparative study based on songs I usually listen. My tastes are very wide that will allow me to study the report of the board fairly extensive. For the technical part I used two different amplifiers , a vintage, the Sansui AU117 and later, the Cambridge Sonata AR 30 . In general I can say that I feel the best on both amplifications although Cambridge put foremost audio enhancements for a more detailed than the Sansui natural. I plugged directly Oppo via analog audio outputs for the test.

For tapping, the title "I do not care anymore" by Phil Collins (CD version), the introduction to the battery is more physical and if we loose on the volume knob can even grow in Cambridge its limits without payment of distortion or aggressiveness on the voice of Phil Collins. Listening really seem airier and more pleasant.

On "Treasure" by Bruno Mars (digital version 44.1 kHz / 16-bit) improvement is felt on the opening of the soundstage, Cambridge, which I find a colder than natural Sansui, become almost " Foot Tapping "while keeping the proportion to be more analytical.

On "Waiting for a girl like you" acoustic Foreigner (digital version 88.2 kHz / 24-bit) voice gets really matter and speakers tend to disappear even more than usual.

Anyway I could go on for many pages, but you will understand, whatever the skeptics, this diet really brings an audible gain on listening, even if it is light because the Oppo BDP-103EU is already excellent in audio playback . But if I had to summarize, I would say that the distortion at high frequencies seems reduced, which leads to less ear fatigue, a more open soundstage and therefore a proportion of pregnant to disappear even more than usual. Good point so that the audio feed Oppomod level.

Input on the video

For this test I chose two blu-ray in order to test the contribution of this diet. "The Piano Lesson" for the noisy image and "Batman The Dark Knight Rises" for its pristine master. In order to test the contribution in diametrically opposite conditions.

Start with the piano lesson, images below allow you to compare a scene before / after mounting the power supply with all the improvements of the plate off filters.

Already we can see a decrease in image noise even if it is light. Continue with the same scene, but by activating the sharpness of 4.

In this example we can also notice a decrease in noise with a sharpness processing may seem less violent and more natural. See what it can give to a newer master such as "Batman The Dark Knight Rises." First with off treatment.

In this example, the original being all perfect score we do not see significant differences between the two master screens. Keep the same scene and activate the sharpness processing on four.

In this example the difference is more visible on the contrasts and microphones on the stage that is gaining in depth and "natural 3d." Continue with another example where the sharpness is set to 4.

Also on this stage the treatment is gaining finesse and detail. So the intake of food is directly visible on the rendering integrated into the Oppo treatments. In a more general way, as a film looks in motion, image quality, fluidity and the effect of natural depth is enhanced by the implementation of this linear regulated power supply. Crossed the plate really still a cap in terms of picture quality.

Verdict

So I will not dwell on 10 pages, so the regulated linear power supply in Oppomod provides a real gain , both the audio quality and listening on both image quality and quality integrated the Oppo-EU BDP103 treatments. So all is well in the best of worlds and can therefore run out and buy this power. I would say all depends if you are a perfectionist and a little tinkering does not scare you. You can invest in this power decently charged $ 280 (about 206 €), bringing the price of platinum Oppo BDP-103 U.S. at 900 €. Also keep in mind that to enjoy audio enhancements you need a good amplifier and enjoy video improvements in size 50 "seems a minimum to fully exploit the qualitative contributions of this mod. In any case I can conclude by saying that yes this diet has an effect on the quality of the plate and no it is not purely psychological.
