The OPPO UDP 203 can play almost any digital optical medium, including CD, SACD, DVD and ordinary Blue Ray discs and 4K Ultra Blu Ray discs, as well as music and movie files on a USB hard disk

And it is possible to play files stored on the NAS over the network.

On the other hand, there is a desire to maximize the audio and video performance of the OPPO UDP 203 to deliver the highest audio performance .

On the video side, it is necessary to improve the performance as much as possible in order to improve the resolution and quality of the dynamic image by HDR as well as 4K UHD, 4 times the resolution of Full HD.

In this regard, the OPPO UDP 203 can be modified /upgraded in four ways.

No.1. Modification of power supply

Switching to a linear power supply for eliminating high-frequency noise dissipation due to the use of switching power supply and provide stable power supply of higher quality.

The replacement of this is the most important part of the modification.

In the case of audio, the center of the sound is stabilized as a pyramid type, the resolution of the middle and lower parts is increased, and the overall expressive power is greatly increased.

On the video side, For a large screen, especially a projector with a size of 100 inches or more, we can enjoy exact converges, but there are no artifacts, and the screen is transparent, elegant and stable.

No.2  Replacing the clock to the most accurate one

 The current clock has 300 PPM class accuracy.

Since all digital devices operate according to the reference clock.

As the accuracy increases, the operation is performed according to the correct synchronization.

Therefore, in the case of audio, the accuracy of the sound image is increased, the sound stage is deepened and wider while the detail and clarity of the sound is increasing.

If you are using a good quality external DAC or AV processor, or if you are looking for Video quality improvement only , the above 2 modifications are enough.

The below No. 3 mod, high-end stereo 2-channel DAC replacement, is for those who want to extract the DSD file to the highest sound quality etc.

So this it recommended for those who focus on playing high quality music sources.

No.3. Replacing the internal DAC board

For the OPPO UDP 203, the DAC used is Asahi Kasehi's AKM 4458VN 8-channel DAC. However, it is disappointing to use general-purpose 5532 OP amp in I / V conversion circuit and the subsequent analog circuit, and using the electrolytic condenser for as a coupling capacitor.

It's OK to use 7.1-channel sound for movies, but not serious music listening.

Therefore, we designed this part as a high-end 2-channel stereo DAC board using the Saber ESS9038 RRO chip, which is rated as the best DAC in the world. The I / V circuits and analogue stages use the highest quality OP amp ICs, ultra-precision resistors, Wima film capacitors, with 11 of proprietary regulated local power supply.

In addition, it is designed to be electrically isolated from the main body through OPTO coupling, so that they do’nt interfere with each other, except only for exchanging data. This board also supports balanced output as well as unbalanced output using RCA terminal.

No.4. Replacement of aluminium chassis and various anti-vibration measures taken

A new aluminum case is designed with precision CAD system. In addition, the BD ROM drive unit has various supplementary measures taken , such as various damping material reinforcement for a more complete and smooths drive .

OPPO UDP 203은 4K Ultra Blu Ray 디스크를 재생 할 수 있음은 물론 CD, SACD, DVD 및 일반 Blue Ray 디스크까지 거의 모든 디지털 광학 매체를 재생할 수 있음은 물론 음악이나 영화 파일을 USB 하드 디스크에 넣고 연결하여 재생할 수 있으며 네트워크를 통해 NAS 에 저장된 파일의 재생이 가능하는 등 여러가지의 활용도가 많다.

이 OPPO UDP 203 한대만 있으면 거의 모든 디지털 소스에 대해 대응할 수 있어 여러가지 소스 기기를 하나로 정리 하여 간편한 오디오 및 홈 시어터 취미생활을 즐길 수 있다.

그러나 한편 OPPO UDP 203의 비디오 및 특히 오디오 성능을 최대한으로 끌어 올려 하이엔드 CD 또는 SACD의 오디오적 성능을 내게끔 하고자 하는 욕심이 생기게 된다.

비디오 면에서도 Full HD의 4 배의 해상도와 HDR에 의한 다이나믹한 영상을 좀 더 정세하고 품위있게 즐기기 위해서 최대한으로 성능 향상이 요구 된다.

이러한 면에서 OPPO UDP 203에 대해 개조 할 부분은 4 가지로 요약된다.

1. 전원부 개조

스위칭 전원의 사용으로 인한 고주파 잡음 발산을 원천적으로 막을 수 있고 보다 높은 품질의 안정적 전원 공급을 위한 리니어 파워 전원으로의 교체. 이것의 교체는 개조 중 가장 중요한 부분으로 오디오의 경우 음이 중심이 피라미드형으로 안정되게 조성되고 중, 저음 부분의 해상감이 증가하고 전체적인 표현력이 크게 증가한다. 디지털 오디오에서 음이 날리는 듯 가볍게 들리는 가장 고민을 이 리니어 전원이 해결해 준다. 비디오쪽에서는 대형 화면, 특히 100인치 이상의 프로젝터로 볼 때 확연히 차익 나는데 미세한 잡티가 없어지고 화면이 투명하고 품위있게 그리고 안정감을 주게 된다.

2. 클럭의 교체

현재 사용되는 클럭은 300 PPM 급의 발진자를 이용한 것이다. 모든 디지털 기기는 기준이 되는 클럭에 따라 동작하므로 이것의 정확도가 증가 할수록 정확한 동기에 따라 연산이 이루어지므로 오디오의 경우 음상의 정확도 증가, 공간감 향상 , 음의 디테일한 뉴앙스의 표현이 두드러지게 나타나며, 화면의 경우 해상력의 증가, 경계 부분의 또렷함, 색상이 보다 순수하게, 채도 높게 표현된다.

좋은 품질의 외부 DAC 또는 AV 프로세서를 사용하거나 화질 개선이 주목적인 경우에는 1, 2 번의 개조만으로 충분하다.

밑의 3 번 하이엔드 스테레오 2 채널 DAC 교체는 DSD 파일을 최고의 음질로 끌어내고 싶은 분 등 

 고음질 음악 소스의 재생에 주안점을 두는 분에게 추천한다.

3. 내장 DAC 보드의 교체

OPPO UDP 203의 경우 사용되는 DAC 는 일본 아사히키세히사의 AKM 4458VN 8-channel DAC 으로 가격이 저렴하지만 상당히 우수한 칩이다. 하지만 I/V 변환회로 및 이후 아날로그 회로에서 범용 5532 OP amp를 사용하고 커플링 콘덴서로 음질이 조악한 전해 콘덴서를 사용하여 음악을 본격적으로 듣는데 사용하는데는 무리이다. 영화의 7.1 채널 사운드를 간편 재생하는 용도라고 보면 적당하다.

그래서 이 부분을 현존 최고의 DAC로 평가 받는 Sabre ESS9038 pro chip을 사용한 하이엔드 2 채널 스테레오 DAC 보드로 새로이 설계 하였다. I/V 회로 및 아날로그 단에는 최고 품질의 OPamp IC와 초정밀 저항 및 Wima film 콘덴서가 사용되고 전용 독자 정전압 전운이 마련 되어 있다. 또 OPto coupling 을 통해 본체와 전기적으로는 완전히 절연되도록 설계하여 데이타를 주고 받는 것 이외에는 서로 간섭을 없도록 하였다. 또 이 보드는 RCA 단자를 이용한 언밸런스 출력은 물론 밸런스 출력에도 대응하도록 하였다.

이 새로이 설계된 하이엔드 2 채널 스테레오 DAC 보드로 교체 하면 2 채널 스테레오를 통해 본격적인 클랙식이나 재즈 음악을 감상할 수 있다.

일반 Dolby Atmos 등 영화의 멀티 서라운드 사운드는 HDMi audio나 동축 및 광 디지털 출력을 통해 AV 리시버를 이용하면 된다.

4. 통 알류미늄 새시로 교체 및 각종 방진 대책 실시

하이엔드 플레이어는 공진방지 등 기계적 완성도를 높여 극한의 성능까지 추구한다.

이에 통 알류미늄 재질의 새시를 새로이 만들었다. 이와 함께 BD ROM 드라이브 단에 대해서도 새로이 좀 더 완벽한 재생을 위한 여러가지 댐핑 재질 보강 등 여러가지 보완책이 실시되어 있다.

1번 전원부 개조 :

표준형 리니어 전원 27만원.

Spedial Edition 전원 36만원 ( 니치콘 오디오 그레이드 전해 콘덴서, 독일 Wima 필림 콘덴서 사용, 전원부는 모두 Schottky Barrier diode , AMR 사의 Gold fuse )

여기에 휴즈 대신 circuit breaker 장착을 원할 경우 3만원 추가.

2번 클럭 개조

Femto clock 으로 개조시 45만원

I just finished OCXO/TCXO clock module installation for OPPO UDP 203.

The result is wonderful . More detailed and  vivid picture and trueful digital sound .

0.01 PPM class Ocxo clock is used for 27 MHz system clock 

 and 2.5PPM class TCXO clock is used for secondary OPPO ARM chip operation.

It needs 4 V AC for supplying 3.3V DC.

So I ordered special transformer which has 4V and 

6V AC tap( later it will be used for supplying 5V DC to ESS9038 PRo featured DAC board).

오디오용 ( AV 기기 포함 ) 의 전원으로는 리니어 전원이 이상적입니다만 110v나 220v 등

 전압에 따라 개별적으로 트랜스포머를 사용해야 되어 무거워 지며 제조 가격이 비싸게 됩니다.

따라서 현재 대부분의 기기에는 스위칭 방식의 전원이 들어가 있습니다. 가볍고 효율이 좋은데다 90 ~240 v

까지 바로 사용할 수 있는 장점이 있습니다. 하지만 이 전원은 매우 높은 주파수의 고주파 전원을 사용하여

 정류하기 때문에 고주파 잡음이 다량으로 발생하여 오디오와 영상 회로에 간섭을 하여 음질과 화질을 떨어뜨립니다.

이러한 폐단을 줄이고자 OPPO BDP 95/105(D) 의 경우에는 전체를 모두 리니어 전원을 하지는 못하더라도

 오디오 회로에는 리니어 전원을 사용하고 있습니다. 비디오와 콘트롤 회로 부에는 스위칭 전원을 사용하는 대신에

 고주파 잡음이 회로 내부로 퍼지는 것을 조금이라도 줄이기 위해 차폐( SHIELD ) 금속판을 설치하고 있습니다.

OPPO BDP 93/103(D)과 새로 나온 UDP 203 의 전원은 100% 스위칭 방식입니다.

기존의 전원의 성능을 최대한으로 향상시키기 위한 방법을 소개합니다.

OPPO BDP 93/103(D) 전원의 경우

1. 전해 콘덴서를 낮은 ESR의 Audio Grade 급으로 교체하고 용량을 높인다.

5V 단의 220uF/35V를 2200uF/10V로 교체 한다.

+,-15V 단의 470uF/35V와 220uF/35V를 1000uF/25V로 교체 한다.

저의 경우는 일본 Nichicon사에서 Audio grade 급 콘덴서 중 최고급품인 KW 시리즈 것을 사용했습니다.

2. 정류 전해 콘덴서 최종단에 1uF /63V의 질 좋은 필름 콘덴서를 병렬로 붙여 준다.

이것은 고역대에서의 임피던스 상승을 막아주고 고역 주파수대의 잔류 잡음을 줄여 주는 효과가 있습니다 저는 독일 Wima 사의 MKP 필름 콘덴서를 사용했습니다.

3. 최종단에 있는 브리딩 저항 (14.5K)이 기존에는 탄소피막형이 사용되고 있는데 잡음 지수가 낮은 금속 피막 저항으로 바꾸어 준다.

4. 휴즈가 고정형이 사용 되고 있는데 보다 고급형을 사용할 수 있도록 휴즈 홀더로 바꾸어 달고 AMR사의 Audio grade 휴즈인 Gold fuse 로 교체 하였습니다.

5. 알류미늄 판과 기판 지지대를 이용하여 전원부 위쪽에 가능한 가깝게 차폐 판을 설치 한다. 이것의 설치로 인하여 고주파 잡음이 기기 내부로 복사 되는 것을 상당히 많이 방지 할 수 있습니다.

OPPO UDP 203 전원의 경우

12V 단의 220uF/35V를 1000uF/16V로 교체 한다.

- +,-15V 단의 470uF/35V와 220uF/35V를 1000uF/25V로 교체 한다.

나머지는 OPPO BDP 93/103(D) 경우와 동일 ( 단 3 번 항은 제외)
